Christmas 2008

Can you believe another year has come and gone????

This year, Tyler and LeeAnn decided to exchange "home made" gifts. One day Tyler stopped by my desk at work and we were talking about what he was going to make for Leeann for Christmas, he wanted to make something that was over the top and not what she would expect or believe he could do. I jokingly said he could make her a skirt which he thought was a fabulous idea. The following Saturday he came over and after a trip to the store for fabric which by the way he picked out, he sat down and cut it out and sewed it together. I guess the sewing class in junior high actually paid off. It really looked good and I think Leeann was truly suprised he could do it.

Our Christmas tree. Christmas night after everyone left, we shut off all the lights and listened to Christmas music and gazed at the lights. it was so relaxing.

Iviemarie helping Gaelynn get the Christmas eve table ready for our annual dinner of clam chowder and corn chowder. yummmmm!!!!

Thayn and Alison invited us over to watch the kids open their presents and unfortuantley I forgot my camera because they got a Wii. The kids were beyond excited and it was funny because Kyle sat there hugging it with a permanent grin on his face. It was cute to see them so excited.
After breakfast with them, we braved the weather and went out to see what Kyndra, Garrett and Peyton got for Christmas.

Garrett was so excited he got a Thomas the Train track.

Peyton received this toy from Grandma and Grandpa.
Kyndra was very excited for the Tea set she received and has already been working on invites for her first tea party.
Later that evening, everyone came over for our annual Christmas party. The younger kids did a gift exchange and the adults did a $5.00 gift exchange. It was alot of fun expecially since my gift kept getting taken so I would have to pick another one.

Is it really Christmas???

This year has been real low key.. so much so that I am having a hard time realizing Christmas is next week!! In the years past, those of us at home have either bought for each other or drawn a name and and done Christmas just for that one person. This year we have decided to just draw names for Christmas stockings. I am happy we are doing this but not really doing any shopping has left me asking the question, Is it really Christmas???

What are some creative things you all put in your socks?

Annual Gingergread House's

For the past 7-10 years, my family gets together either the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving and decorates gingerbread houses. These houses are made out of the real thing. My mother starts about 2 weeks before Thanksgiving and makes tons of gingerbread dough. When my brothers and their families come, the house is baked, glued and ready for them to decorate.

I just got back from getting a massage and feel great!! Since I have Degenerative Disc Disease and had neck surgery 3 years ago, nothing gives me relief like a massage. If you've never had one, you have no idea what your missing.

Most people feel awkward getting a massage because they think you have to get completely undressed. Not so! You undress to your level of comfort. I am hooked and will be getting one every month.

Yes I am, and so are you! Today was our Primary Program and it was sooo cute. The kids sang their little hearts out and the talks were great. I loved when the sunbeam class started it off with each of them telling/shouting in the mike "my name is (fill in the blank) and I am a child of God".

Random thoughts

So I really don't have much to say (wait, that is how I start my written journals..oh no, I'll try not to make this too long... who am I kidding, this is as close to a journal as I have kept for a while) but just noticed I havent blogged for almost a week. I wish I were more creative in my writings, but that just isnt me.
This past week has been kind of busy at work. I am in the middle of getting some pretty big filings done and off to the states which consumes my entire day... 6:45 to 3:45 with lunch most days at my desk. The only reason I leave on time is because I drive in and Dana and Gaelynn rely on the ride. Oh well, I would say it is job security but then that would be laughable since they layed off 6 people this week. I feel safe though so I'm not really all that worried. A friend at work summed it up best when she said " I have faith in the Lord that what ever happens is what is best for me".

I also forgot a very good friends Birthday and I feel so bad. I took her flowers last night and we went to dinner but it just doesnt make up for the fact that I forgot. I promise, it won't happen again!!!

I'm trying to decide what to make for our girls camp fund raiser auction this saturday and am torn. I was planning on making a table runner or quilt but just didnt get time to do it. I hope they arent dissappointed in me. I won't go empty handed though so I guess a great cake or something will have to do.

I'm back...

This is the beautifully 200 year old house my friends are renting.
The view from their family room. awesome!! To the side of their house, they have their own little forrest. This is Wendy taking a picture of the kids in the forrest.
The old care takers house is now a cottage that someone rents. I loved this little view and would love to live there.

This is son #1 He is cute and loveable.

son #2- such a cutie.
Oldest daughter. A typical pre-teen. Sorry Wendy!!!
I hope the next one is a boy so you don't have to go thru it again.

daughter #2- darling and a big helper.

One of the pictures Wendy "tried" to take. Daughter #1 "hates" to have her picture taken and made sure her mom was very much aware of this. Thankfully she cooperated a bit.

Friday night we went into the city and saw Wicked which was wonderful. Leaving the theatre we took a pedal-taxi and then prayed we would make it back safely to Grand Central Station to pick up our train. As you can kind of see from the picture, NYC is CRAZY. Tons of people and cars. This picture is Times Square in the distance.

New York was beautiful! The trees when I got there on Monday were all a glow with the many colors of fall. A couple of days, we didnt even leave the house. We sat, visited, crocheted and had a fun and relaxing time catching up.
Thanks again Wendy!! I love you and your family.
